Crisis on the China Rim: An Economic, Crude Oil, and Military Analysis

China Summons Japan Diplomat Over East China Sea Drilling Developments

China issued a formal protest today over what it is labeling "a serious provocation to, and infringement on" China's sovereign rights and interests.  This protest is in reaction to Japan's decision to grant East China Sea energy resource drilling rights to Japan's Teikoku Oil Co.

Mr. Cui Tiankai, the head of the Asia Department of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, summoned Japanese minister Chihiro Atsumithe from The Embassy of Japan in China and accused Japan of violating the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
